The Burlington Northern Railroad was the product of a March 2nd, 1970, merger of four major railroads, the Great Northern Railway, Northern Pacific Railway, Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway and the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. In this series, we feature the films of Fred Crissey, who traveled to many areas along the BN’s route in the central United States in the late 1970’s and 1980’s with his 8-millimeter movie film camera.
In volume 1, Fred travels to the states of Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Illinois, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.
Cascade green and black locomotives are seen in such locations as Wyoming’s Wind River Canyon, Montana’s Bozeman and Mullen Pass and Skykomish, Washington. You have to see the action Fred captured while riding in a suburban commuter train between Aurora and Chicago, Illinois when the BN was using their fleet of E-9’s. We finish the show along the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains and follow the old Colorado & Southern and the Fort Worth & Denver between Trinidad, Colorado and Dalhart, Texas.
This program showcases the BN at a time when they were growing and expanding since the 1970 merger. If you are a fan of the Cascade Green, you won’t want to miss Classic Burlington Northern, Volume 1!
