Norfolk Southern’s Marion Branch is a unique line with a rich history dating back to the 1890’s as the Big 4, also known as the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & Saint Louis Railroad. The Marion Branch begins at Goshen and ends at Anderson, Indiana. Our coverage also includes locals continuing onto CSX’s South Anderson Yard. This line travels through many small towns, throughout farm communities and through larger towns with street running. The branch also crosses five other rail lines. Many signs of the big 4 are evident along the line as many CCC&STL concrete posts are still in place. In the early 1970’s, Penn Central installed ex PRR position light signals and we see those still in use before they were replaced! Videographer Kent Nelson recorded trains in all seasons of the year. So much variety in motive power is captured with foreign railroads and several NS heritage units! Plenty of rebuilt and now retired older locomotives are seen, including high hoods! Enjoy the sights and sounds of the NS in an era that won’t be repeated on Norfolk Southern’s Marion Branch!
