The Rail network in Twin Cities area of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota hosts key routes to and from Chicago, Kansas City, ports in the Pacific Northwest and Canada. BNSF, Canadian Pacific, Canadian National and Union Pacific are the major players here. Many trains travel through the area, but the most unique trains are led with EMD locomotives. Most of which no longer exist or are on their way to retirement. In the next two hours, you will be treated to some phenomenal trains. In Volume 2 of Twin Cities Mainline EMD’s, we visit the eastern portion of Canadian Pacific’s Paynesville Subdivision and the entire Withrow Subdivision. Both of which are former Soo Line routes. The Withrow Sub is also used by Canadian National’s daily train to and from the Twin Cities and Steven’s Point, Wisconsin. All these scenes were captured prior to CP’s merger with the Kansas City Southern in the years 2014 to 2023. The stars of the show are the Dresser Rock trains led with aging CP SD40-2’s. It would be the last year that CP used the Dresser quarry along with retiring most of these SD40-2’s for good. Canadian National’s L506 offered us some dandy EMD leaders too! If you are a fan of the Twin Cities rail scene, and EMD locomotives, you must have Twin Cities Mainline EMDs, Volume 2 in your collection!
